Installing ntop with untangle 10.0

You are limited to an older version of ntop using the latest version of Untangle due to shared library dependencies. ntopng won’t run correctly with this version of debian as is – and making it work would break untangle (I believe…)

SSH as root Modify /etc/apt/sources.list and uncomment debian line, backport line
# apt-get update
# apt-get install ntop

All done!

Wait – it didn’t prompt you for an admin password and you can’t configure it… You try to access the configuration pages of ntop but any password is rejected, and it never prompted you to create one. Well nothing on the net seems to fix this the way it should but here’s the undocumented fix that worked for me:

# /etc/init.d/ntop stop
# mv /var/lib/ntop/ntop_pw.db /var/lib/ntop/ntop_pw.dbold
# ntop –set-admin-password=mypassword
# /etc/init.d/ntop start

Because we don’t want to confuse untangle’s updates, recomment those lines in sources.list

Also remember that your ntop user, port, etc can be configured in /var/lib/ntop/init.cfg
